Archive of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde (Jewish Community Organisation, IKG) Vienna

The Archive of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde (Jewish Community Organisation, IKG) Vienna is the only archive of a Jewish community of which the collections, which span from the archive’s foundation in 1952 to the present day, have remained preserved beyond the Nazi era. The materials of this unique archive reflect in detail the history and development of the Jewish community in Vienna and its membership from the seventeenth century onwards.

The documents from the Nazi era form a particular focal point. The preservation of these archival collections is of great importance to Holocaust survivors and their descendants, to researchers, as well as to interested persons domestically and abroad.

The materials and documents of the Archive of the IKG Vienna relating to the Holocaust, antisemitism, and racism have since February 2018 been on loan to the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI). This loan serves the scholarly appraisal and analysis of these collections and makes them accessible for research and educational purposes.
