The reference library of the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute (VWI) comprises over 18,000 media. Specifically, the collection contains print media, a audio-visual collection andOpen Access resources. Monographs, publication series and periodicals in printed form make up the majority of the collection, which consists of new acquisitions, permanent loans from the library holdings of the Simon Wiesenthal Archive (SWA) and, not least, donations in accordance with the library guidelines.

It is a reference and storage library, meaning that the collections can only be used on site in the library. Due to limited space there is no open access area. However, the required items are fetched immediately upon request.

The user/order form can be downloaded onto your computer to be filled out, printed, signed, and sent to the librarian by email, or it can be filled out on site. It is also possible to order scans free of charge (§42a UrhG ingF). Please note that this only applies to individual copies (meaning several pages, by no means entire works). Digital copies may only be used for research purposes.

The library reading room provides access to four modern laptop work spaces with free Wi-Fi. Library users may use the Bookeye® 4 V3 Kiosk Scanner free of charge, which was especially designed for self-service. Its unique design allows books to be scanned in their natural positions without causing damage to the binding. Printing is also available at a charge of 10 Cents per A4-page.

Library

The holdings of the library, together with those of the archive, form the documentation pillar of the VWI and thus represent the research infrastructure of the VWI.

Monographs, publication series and periodicals in printed form make up the majority of the collection, which consists of new acquisitions, permanent loans from the library holdings of the Simon Wiesenthal Archive (SWA) and, not least, donations. The selection, acquisition, cataloguing, preservation and provision of media is carried out in accordance with the library's collection guidelines and serves to fulfil internal and external research requirements as well as to prepare the Institute's educational tasks.

Due to the structural conditions, the library only has closed stacks. The holdings can be searched using the library's own online search engine; in addition, the entire, already catalogued holdings are integrated into the OBV (Austrian Library Network) search engine.

Users also have the option of using the Collections tool to conduct focussed research. New acquisitions, the library's audiovisual media, the already catalogued book holdings of the permanent loans from the Simon Wiesenthal Archive and open access resources can be searched specifically via the Collections and Sub-collections tabs of the online search engine.
